Display Cabinet in Kauri

This cabinet, commissioned by a couple while I was on an extended trip back to my native New Zealand, is an example of a keen interest I have in using timber that is indigenous to an area, whilst also ensuring that it is sourced as sustainably as possible.

The Kauri tree is native to the northern half of the North Island of New Zealand, but was heavily logged in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The wasteful nature of the extraction left huge quantities of usable timber which it has been possible to rescue decades later with the use of more modern machinery.
